Anchor Text

The clickable text of a hyperlink.

Anchor text is the visible, clickable phrase in a hyperlink. Google uses it as a signal of what the linked page is about — a link with anchor text "content calendar software" tells Google the destination probably ranks for that topic.

Healthy anchor profiles are diverse: a mix of branded ("Postwyse"), exact-match ("content calendar"), partial-match ("content planning tool"), generic ("read more"), and naked URLs. Over-optimizing for one exact-match phrase is a classic Penguin-era signal of manipulation.

Inside your own site, internal anchor text should be descriptive. "Click here" is wasted SEO equity; "free engagement rate calculator" reinforces the destination's ranking.
